Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) was established by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in 2002. It is believed to be a newer version of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) this is widely used to secure electronic data. In 1977, this encryption scheme was accepted as a Federal standard and remained an approved standard until 1998. However, with the passage of time, there emerged the latest tools, technologies, devices, and programs which allowed attackers to break this algorithm in 56 hours. In fact, after that, a large number of attacks were successfully launched against this algorithm. In order to deal with the issues raised by DES, Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen created a new encryption scheme in 1999. Initially, this algorithm was named as the Rijndael (pronounced "rain doll") algorithm. The basic purpose of this attempt was to improve data security by providing an effective and reliable technique for the data encryption. Since then AES has been used in various electronic applications for data security. In fact, this scheme has become a default choice for a wide variety of commercial applications like that financial transactions, banking, federal and private information and telecommunications. Precisely, this algorithm contains symmetric-key block cipher that makes use of different encryption schemes. In this scenario, AES encrypts data using 128, 192, and 256 bits. Normally, this algorithm allows the encryption and decryption of data in blocks of 128 bits. Like public-key ciphers, symmetric-key ciphers do not make use of a pair of keys. However, data that is encrypted through this algorithm contains the same number of bits as the input data has. In view of the fact that AES contains iterative cipher hence it works like a loop, which frequently carries out substitutions and permutations of the input data (McCaffrey, 2014).
