Management Discussion Board 7 – Article Example
23 June Management discussion board 7 Leadership is fundamental to achieving organizational goals because of its role of influencing people and processes towards desired objectives that a leader or the leader’s organization may set. Sensitivity, persistence, charisma, attractiveness, intelligence, and strength are the most important traits in a leader.
A successful leader draws obedience and support from followers and sensitivity is one of the elements to achieving these. Being sensitive to people’s needs and potentials allows a leader to associate with the people and match expectations with abilities of the people. Realistic goals can then be set that motivate followers. Compassion that emerges from sensitivity to followers’ needs also creates a bond between a leader and the followers to motivate submission. Intelligence also promotes an understanding of followers and creates a bond that influences the followers. People’s attitude towards another person also influences ability of the people to follow the person and this identifies significance of charisma and attractiveness of a leader. The traits are likely to attract people to the leader and even elicit support from followers to the leader. Leadership also has challenges and unless a person is strong and can persevere, he or she is likely to give up and derail followers’ morale. Followers may also reflect lack of persistence and strength in a leader (Schermerhorn, et al. 306).
Sensitivity, persistence, charisma, attractiveness, intelligence, and strength are the most important leadership traits as they define effectiveness and sustainability of leadership.
