Knowledge and Practice Gaps among Pediatric Nurses at a Tertiary Care Hospital Karachi Pakistan – Article Example

The paper "Knowledge and Practice Gaps among Pediatric Nurses at a Tertiary Care Hospital Karachi Pakistan" is an exceptional example of an article review on nursing. Essani and Ali (2011) conducted an investigation to explore the gaps between knowledge and nursing practice in the pediatric unit. From the background presented, there was a knowledge gap between propositions and practice in this profession.
Literature review
Through the literature review, the reader understands what other researchers have done on theory and actual practice in a nursing pediatric unit. The review grouped the study gaps into five major groups. These are medication, skills, knowledge, intubations, and handling of a code blue. It also states the importance of conducting research in pediatric nursing. Finally, the article provided an extensive literature review on theory and actual practice. The literature review is critical and provides an extensive background in the area of interest (Essani and Ali, 2011).
Method
The Quantitative descriptive study design was used to determine the knowledge practice displayed by the nurses in pediatric centres. The study used this methodology to obtain information from the study participants. The universal sampling procedure was used to obtain the study participants (Essani and Ali, 2011). This sampling procedure is appropriate because it reduces sampling favouring the respondents. The study targeted hospitals in Pakistan and Karachi because they had nursing schools and medical colleges. Out of 45 participants, the study selected 40 study participants (Essani and Ali, 2011). This methodology was appropriate because it contributed to the reliable findings of the study. Questionnaires were developed, validated, and distributed to the respondents (Essani and Ali, 2011). Questionnaires are appropriate because they produce a lot of information when used in research studies. A pilot study was conducted to determine areas of correction in the questionnaires making them appropriate, and suitable for the respondents.   These researchers followed ethical consideration while conducting their research. They made the respondents aware of the importance of the study. Furthermore, they assured participants of research privacy when giving information. Data were analyzed using quantitative techniques using the SPSS version 14 software (Essani and Ali, 2011). Use of questionnaires alone was a major limitation of the study. The researchers would have obtained a lot of information using different data collection instruments.
Findings
The descriptive statistic presented the study findings in terms of tables and frequency. For instance, the results were well presented and elaborated in relation to the study objectives. Recommendations were provided to assist nurses in the pediatric unit improve their theory and practice.
Conclusion
Finally, the article provided a good conclusion based on the topic of the study. It summarized the entire research process and the study outcomes.
