Article review on turnover Managing Turnover Disruptions The article is an accurate reflection of how things unfoldin the corporate world in as far as staff turnover is concerned in organizations. Departments that experience high turnover of employees report the poorest performance in most cases (Starner par. 1). The poor performance is due to several factors one of which is overworking the experienced workers. More often than not, they have to do their part while still sparing time to induct the new employees. Over time, this translates to poor service delivery and subsequent customer dissatisfaction. When employee turnover is inevitable, the effects of employee turnover can be mitigated through managing the transition through smaller workgroup units as opposed to large ones. Smaller work groups have the ability to absorb the shock especially when the proportion of the newcomers is kept at low.
People Leave Their Bosses, Not Their Jobs.
I agree with the author that people leave their bosses and not their jobs. High staff turnover has the intrinsic effect of changing work locations but in most cases the job remains a constant or with a slight variation. The only other change in such a move is management change. As such, it’s logical to conclude that it is management that influences turnover because the jobs remain relatively constant. The human resource department fails in that it fails to hold middle-level managers and other low-level supervisors accountable for the high turnover (Starner par. 28). Instead, the initiate vigorous policies on the operating side of the firm forgetting the significance of the art of people management. According to Starner (par. 32), if the effects of staff turnover can be quantified, then the managers can be tasked with accounting for their losses hence improve their management to mitigate the losses. That way, practical people management solves the stalemate of high turnover and endless blame games.
