Fans control over culture Fans have much control over culture as portrayed by the film industry all over the world. Film in the current industry is highly restricted to fans culture compared to the past where it basically relied on popular culture. Most movie producers have been criticized from deviating from the aspect of fun culture and focusing only in the popular culture.
In the film ‘George Lucas vs the people’, George is criticized of shifting to popular culture while ignoring the fanatic culture in the television series ‘Star Wars’(Henry, 1). The new Star Wars focuses on the geek world which has mainstreamed in the current science fiction production movies. The new Star Wars represents an intersection of two parallel cultures which have raised critics from the fans and media entertainment coverage. Robert McChesney argues that the trend in the entertainment industry is currently focused on media ownership which has highly affected production (Henry, 3). Most media owners in Hollywood advocate for the involvement of emerging trends in culture and technology to movies. This aspect has left directors with the blame of shifting from originality to suit the popular culture.
Star wars has been criticized of diverging from its original form of production in which fanatics played a big role in the film’s culture to modern science fiction format that explores the geek world (Henry, 9). The strength of popular culture in the current film industry has enabled the sale of many movies thus most directors and media houses ought to us this aspect in the marketing of their production. George Lucas does not carry all the blame in the transformation of Star Wars and ignorance of fan culture. It is basically a marketing strategy by media houses and production companies that led to this transition.
